banddfinal 300x172 About Us

Mother and daughter Bert and Dana Freed share a passion for all handcrafts such as knitting, crochet, needlepoint, and especially beadwork. In 2006 they founded The Well Done Experience, and since then have shared their beading expertise with others through lessons, original written instructions, and unique kits. In 2008, they launched Chicken and the Egg Designs, their line of one-of-a-kind couture beadwork.

Our Name
While volunteering at Mount Sinai Hospital, Bert encountered one particularly special patient, a young man who had grown up on the streets with little guidance or emotional support, and was diagnosed with cancer in his late teens. Bert taught him to knit and the two forged a strong bond. Just before he passed away, at the too young age of 20, the young man gave his unfinished knitted blue scarf to Bert.
To commemorate her exceptional patient, Bert framed the scarf with a photograph of the young man knitting and added a caption that read: “Well Done!” The framed display was mounted at Mt. Sinai on the floor in which they had spent so much time together.
The Well Done Experience is dedicated to this special young man, and to all those who find a part of themselves through their craft.

Our Mission
The Well Done Experience celebrates all individuals who have the desire to create something with their own hands. Through the teaching and creation of handcrafts, we have the ability to enrich our own lives and the lives of those around us. A job done with one’s hands and heart is always a job Well Done!
In keeping with our mission of sharing, a percentage of our proceeds will be donated to a very special charity that we feel embodies our philosophy. The Freshman Fifteen is an organization that provides underprivileged students who have been accepted to college on scholarship with everything they need for dorm living. Their founders learned bead crochet from us so that they could sell jewelry at fundraisers. Be sure to visit their website!
